How Legacy for Lennon Came To Be - by Nora Slupe 2008
On December 8th, 1980 I was sitting in front of the TV eating my dinner when the screen went black and the announcer said, "We interrupt this program for a special announcement." I couldn't believe what I heard. "Tonight - on the streets of New York City - Shot five times - John Lennon is dead". I dropped my plate and went to my knees in front of the TV. Shock filled me. The announcer was speaking; there were scenes of people crying and pictures of where he was shot. I could not speak or move. Then the tears came and I cried and cried. Without realizing what I was saying, words came spewing out of my mouth -- the same words over and over again. Either I was speaking aloud or someone had come into my house unannounced. I know now, it was God speaking and shaking me to my senses, saying: "Put these words down". So the words became lines; lines became a poem; the poem became a melody searching for a place to give peace, love and understanding for those who would believe. So I went searching for someone to help me bring all this together.
I met three special people that helped bring Legacy for Lennon to life. P. J. helped with the melody with her guitar as I la-la-lauded through the best I could. Cary played piano and her guitar and prepared the first draft of the song. And, Shane, whose advisory role also contributed to this project.
In July, 2008, Legacy for Lennon was recorded at Sounds Good Studio, Silverton, Oregon by Cary F. Glassco. (Why it took so long is another story in itself; let's just say it was God's will).
I humbly thank each of these three special people: P.J. Carter, Cary F. Glassco and Shane Lutton, for their help. And most importantly, to God, who gave the ability and talent of these special people to me, and for the strength, patience, and time to keep the road open, even after these twenty-eight years. If it's God's will, and this reaches the path it is supposed to, may this music CD help keep peace, love, and the sound of this world alive --- that sweet, long-lasting world called 'MUSIC' !
